The Day Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is a pre-tax benefit that allows you to set aside money from your paycheck to pay for eligible dependent care expenses, such as daycare, preschool, before- or after-school programs, and summer day camps.
This account helps you save on taxes while covering the cost of care for children under age 13 or for a spouse or dependent who is physically or mentally incapable of self-care, allowing you to work or attend school full-time.
The benefit plan year runs from September 1 through August 31.
If you wish to participate in a Health Care or Day Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA), you must re-enroll each year during the Spring Enrollment period. Changes to your FSA elections outside of this window are only allowed if you experience a qualifying life event, as defined by the IRS for Cafeteria Plans.
For additional details, please visit the Benefits webpage.
A Day Care FSA can be used to pay for eligible care expenses for:
Dependent children under age 13, or
A spouse or other qualifying relative (age 13 or older) who lives in your home at least 50% of the year and is physically or mentally incapable of self-care.
If you have unused funds in your Health Care FSA, you have until November 15 following the end of the plan year to incur additional eligible expenses.
You then have until November 30 to submit claims for reimbursement of those expenses.
⚠️ Important: Any unused balance remaining after November 30 will be forfeited, in accordance with IRS guidelines.
