Accidents and injuries can happen at any time, whether involving employees, students, or other individuals on school property. This page provides the necessary procedures and resources for reporting all types of incidents—including employee work-related injuries, student accidents, and non-employee injuries occurring on District grounds. Prompt and accurate reporting helps ensure safety, compliance, and appropriate follow-up for all involved.
Please review the sections below to determine the correct reporting process based on the type of injury or incident.
Workers’ Compensation Information
All Boise School District employees are covered by Workers’ Compensation insurance. This coverage may provide benefits for lost wages, medical expenses, or, in serious cases, loss of life or dismemberment resulting from a work-related injury or illness.
If an employee is injured on the job, they must report the incident to their supervisor as soon as possible—no later than 24 business hours after the injury occurs.
When medical attention is needed beyond what can be provided at the worksite, the employee and their supervisor should call the Nurse Triage Line together. The Nurse Triage Line will assess the situation and, if medical care is necessary, will direct the employee to an approved provider based on their work location.
If the supervisor or school nurse is unavailable, the employee may call the Nurse Triage Line on their own.
If an employee is injured on the job (non-emergency):
Call the SIFCare Nurse Triage Line:
📞 1-866-453-5216
(Available 24/7, including weekends and holidays)
When calling, please provide:
Company Name: Boise School District
Policy Number: 9330
The Nurse Triage Line will:
Provide first aid guidance and recommend next steps.
Determine whether the employee should see a medical provider.
Begin the First Report of Injury (FROI) during the call.
Whenever possible, the employee should make this call together with their supervisor or school nurse. If the supervisor or nurse is unavailable, the employee may call on their own.
If the employee later seeks medical care after initially declining it, please notify Human Resources by emailing benefits@boiseschools.org and include:
Employee’s full name
Original date of injury
Confirmation that the Nurse Triage Line was contacted
The SIFCare Nurse Triage Line will refer the employee to the appropriate medical care provider if treatment is needed. Employees are encouraged to use the assigned Preferred Provider whenever possible.
If it becomes necessary for the employee to seek care from another provider, they are asked to use a provider from the Preferred Provider List.
Regardless of which provider is selected, the workers’ compensation claim will continue to move forward. However, coverage of medical services is determined by the claims examiner and the State Insurance Fund (SIF) based on the specifics of the claim.
If an employee receives medical care beyond what can be provided at the worksite, they must meet with their supervisor before returning to work to complete the Work Comp Status Update form.
Important Reminders:
This form should be updated after each medical evaluation, including:
Initial treatment
Any follow-up visits
When the employee is released to full duty
The completed form must be forwarded to Benefits at benefits@boiseschools.org
Why It Matters:
Accurate and timely documentation ensures:
The employee’s work status and any restrictions are clearly communicated
You can coordinate safe and appropriate work assignments
Compliance with Workers' Compensation regulations
If an employee is injured outside of work and has medical restrictions that prevent them from performing all aspects of their job, they must complete a Return to Work Status Update form before resuming work.
The employee should meet with their supervisor to complete this form after each update from their healthcare provider, including when they are released to full duty.
If the employee is absent for 10 or more days due to the same condition, they are required to apply for a leave of absence.
This report must be completed within ONE WEEK of any accident resulting in injury involving a student or non-employee adult, based on the following criteria:

Severe enough to cause the loss of half a day or more of school time
Requires treatment by a doctor
Severe enough to cause the loss of half a day or more of activities during non-school time
For Non-Employee Adults
Submit a report if the injury:
Requires treatment by a doctor
