A student teacher is a university or college student earning academic credit through an accredited teacher preparation program. Their goal is to gain hands-on classroom experience required for teaching certification and/or licensure.
Student teachers are paired with experienced mentor teachers for a full semester or academic year. This immersive placement is typically the final component of their educator preparation program—where theory meets practice in a real classroom setting.
