Full details regarding membership and the operation of the Certified Sick Leave Bank can be found in Article IX - Leaves, Section D. Sick Leave Bank in the Negotiated Agreement.
Unless an employee opts out of the Sick Leave Bank during onboarding, they will automatically contribute the number of days required, as established by the Sick Leave Bank Committee, and become a member of the Certified Sick Leave Bank. Contributing one day of sick leave is currently required for membership.
Sick Leave Bank grants are only for the medical needs of an employee. Grant requests will be reviewed by the Certified Sick Leave Bank Committee once a month. In order for a certified employee to be eligible to apply for a Sick Leave Bank grant, the employee must meet the following criteria:
Be a member of the bank, and
Have been absent from work due to disability resulting from illness or injury, and
Have used all of their accumulated sick and personal leave, and
Pay the cost of a sub for five days where their salary was reduced by substitute’s pay at the rate of $110 per day (Chargeable Leave at the Sub Rate of Pay).
